The North River Wildlife Sanctuary is a 225 acres (0.9 square kilometers ) comprehensive protected area in Marshfield in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .
Protected area
The reserve was named after the river of the same name, designated as a scenic river , which flows through it on its northern border. It serves as a base for the Massachusetts Audubon Society to maintain their South Shore sanctuaries , which include the Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary and the North Hill Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary . With its fields, oak forests and salt marshes, it attracts a wide variety of birds, and seals can often be spotted from an observation platform by the river . There are 2.5 mi (4 km ) of hiking trails available to visitors, of which a 0.5 mi (0.8 km) circular route is barrier-free .
