Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon is a commune Déléguée in the French commune of Port-Jérôme-sur-Seine with 8,634 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Seine-Maritime in the region Normandy . The inhabitants are called Gravenchonnais .

history

As early as the 11th century, the Counts of Évreux had built a castle in Fontaine-Saint-Denis here in Gravenchon. The Norman Robert then expanded the castle into a residence.

In 1823 the parishes of Saint-Georges-de-Gravenchon and Notre-Dame were united to form the last existing parish. The industrial area of ​​Port-Jérôme, which is still important today, was founded in 1861 by Emperor Napoleon III. opened. With the German occupation from 1940 onwards, the refineries were partially destroyed and rebuilt after the liberation in August 1944.

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Auberville-la-Campagne , Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon , Touffreville-la-Cable and Triquerville were merged and have since formed a commune nouvelle called Port-Jérôme-sur-Seine . The municipality of Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon belonged to the Arrondissement of Le Havre and the canton of Lillebonne .
