history

The Nova shopping center emerged from the former Saale Park. The renovation work began in 2003. After a ten-month construction period, the first of four construction phases was completed in 2004 and the Saale Park was renamed Nova Eventis. The third construction phase was finally opened on March 15, 2006 and work was completed in autumn of the same year. Up to 600 people were involved in the construction of the major project. 170 million euros were invested in the large-scale renovation.

Together with other major projects (two furniture stores, a car dealership and a now closed wholesale market), a previously agriculturally used area of 500 hectares was completely rebuilt in 15 years. Deka Immobilien Investment GmbH was the client and investor . The owner was Prejan Enterprises Ltd. from England. The ECE from Hamburg, the European market leader in the management of shopping centers, is responsible for the general planning , leasing and administration . Around 1,500 jobs were created with Nova Eventis. This made it one of the largest development projects in the Leipzig-Halle region. In May 2017, the center was sold to the US companies Ares Management and Baupost-Group for 200 million euros . A further renovation took place from mid-2019, the center was given a new look and at the same time a new name and logo: nova | eventis became Nova.

The center consists of two parallel shopping streets, shop windows at a total of 3,000 meters and three elliptical event halls. The Nova has a catchment area of 2.7 million people. The shopping center also has a food court with more than 500 seats. Directly in front of the center are a water landscape that is used as an ice rink in winter, a skater course, an indoor climbing forest and a cinema. "The crazy house" in the parking lot in front of the shopping center can be viewed daily.

There are two furniture stores nearby: Höffner has one of its 19 German locations in Günthersdorf, IKEA one of 51.
