Novasol A / S (spelling in capital letters ) is a pan-European company with headquarters in Virum near Copenhagen and brokers holiday homes and holiday apartments in 28 European countries .

history

The company was founded as Nordisk Ferie on December 28, 1968 in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen . The company was founded by Frederik Heegaard. In the first few years after it was founded, the company expanded primarily in the Scandinavian region and to Germany. The Polish and Czech markets were added in the 1990s. In the early 2000s, Dansommer and Cendant were taken over.

In 2002, today's Wyndham Vacation Rentals took over Novasol. In 2006 Novasol was incorporated into Wyndham Exchange & Rentals. Novasol is represented in 21 countries in Scandinavia and continental Europe. Novasol was the largest European supplier of individual holiday homes with 25,000 units in the early 2010s.

In 2015, Happy Home , a Dutch holiday real estate broker with a total of 2,600 properties, was taken over. In 2016, Novasol acquired Friendly Rentals , a Spanish vacation rental company, and the Belgian company Ardennes-Etappe . At the beginning of 2017, Novasol took over the German platform for private apartments Wimdu from 9flats.com.

The company originally belonged to the US Wyndham Worldwide Group and has been in the Platinum Equity portfolio since February 2018 . The sale value was $ 1.3 billion.

Corporate structure

Novasol mediates around 50,000 holiday homes across Europe with around two million guests annually (as of 2016) and is the largest holiday home provider in Northern Europe. The company was a subsidiary of Wyndham Vacation Rentals . As a rule, 1,500 employees work for the Novasol company. In addition to the headquarters in Denmark, the group has other locations in Europe. The brands are Dansommer, Cuedent, Happy Home, Friendly Rental, Ardennes Etape and Wimdu.

Novasol group of companies

The Novasol group of companies is divided into the brands named above. a. happyhome, Arennes-Etape and Friendly Rentals are an integral part of the brand to the already existing dansommer and Cuedent. In addition to the various brands of the Novasol Group, there is also a separate area, this is the Novasol Fishing product.

In the last few years between 2014 and 2016, the company developed positively in terms of sales and reached the € 100 million mark, making it one of the larger tourism providers in Europe.

The turnover for 2017 was EUR 371,774,408 converted into euros.

Focus of tourism activities

Novasol specializes in the rental of holiday homes / holiday apartments and houseboats as well as holiday home villages in Europe. The Novasol group of companies has various partnerships with tourist providers such as various tourist agencies; but also strong ties to shipping companies with whom long-term partnerships are maintained. As the first product country outside of Europe, Egypt was added to the product range in 2018.

The Novasol company regularly supports social projects, for example in Albania .

criticism

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , there were numerous complaints from customers about Novasol on review forums in summer 2020, as the company refuses to fully reimburse travel expenses already paid for trips that had to be canceled due to the pandemic. Customers report that Novasol only offers a rebooking or refund of 20% of the travel price. At the beginning of the pandemic, Novasol also changed its general terms and conditions, which means that the company is now entitled to withhold all payments already made. The international travel warning issued by the Federal Foreign Office is also not taken into account (see individual proof 15).
