geography

Novo Selo is located in the northeast of Bosnia-Herzegovina and belongs to the municipality of Odžak . The place is connected by a main road to Odžak , the district capital of the canton Posavina . Odžak and Novo Selo are about 3 km apart. Roads and gravel roads ( sokake ) also lead from the village to Ada and Posavska Mahala . Just one kilometer east of Novo Selo, the Bosna flows to Bosanski Šamac .

Economy and culture

In addition to numerous inns and farms, the residents mainly breed cattle (cows, cattle, pigs) and cultivate arable land. The church was built from 2002 to 2004. The school, which was destroyed in the war, was rebuilt. There are also two modern sports fields and a soccer field.

history

The city was first mentioned in 1715 and was still partly Ottoman at the time. Little by little, more and more Croatians settled here. Until 1945 Novo Selo was called "Balegovac", but is still called that by the population today. Nowadays, almost only Croatians (98.38%) live in Novo Selo.

Buildings

  • The church was built from 2002 to 2004. Cardinal Vinko Puljić is responsible for the construction . The church was consecrated on July 29, 2006 by the Cardinal from Sarajevo and has been one of the sights of Novo Selo ever since.
  • The school in Novo Selo looks back on a great tradition. Children from Bukovica and Gornja Dubica visited them and at times there were around 200 students and 6 well-equipped classrooms. Until the war in 1992 one could complete all 8 school levels by the pupils going to school up to the 4th grade in the morning and from the 5th grade in the afternoon. Destroyed in the war, it has now been rebuilt.
  • The monument was erected in 2001 by the Odžak municipality . This monument is intended to remember how many people gave their lives for Odzak and Novo Selo.
