Nowen is a Finnish thrash and death metal band from Raahe , which was founded in 1999.
history
The band was founded in 1999 by Mikko "Lappis" Lappalainen. Since he could not find suitable musicians in his hometown, he moved to Lahti . Between 2001 and 2003, the first two demos, From Birth to Death and Cursed or Blessed (2002), were released and appearances were held. On the first demo the band consists only of Lappalainen, while on the second the line-up next to him consists of guitarist Kimmo Korhonen, bassist Jan Huovinen and drummer Jarkko Turtiainen. Within a few years Lappalainen separated from all other members. A short time later he brought his friends Jarno "Terminator X" Nurmi (electric bass) and Markus "Kusmar Rotten" Taipale (electric guitar) to the line-up. In the same year the EP Where Hell Begins was released . The band consists of the singer, guitarist and bassist Lappalainen and the drummer Ville "Vominator" Vehvilänen. In 2006 the cast consisted of Lappalainen, Taipale, Nurmi and Vehvilänen. After further appearances and rehearsals, the recordings for the debut album began in 2008. In 2010 the debut album Nothing But Death was released on Violent Journey Records , which was followed by Essence of Fear in 2012 on the same label . The third album, called Peace with Death , was released in 2016 by Musica Production .

Walter from Metal.de wrote in his review of Essence of Fear that Nowen is an atypical Finnish band because the songs lack a melancholy atmosphere. The group offers a mixture of "rumbling" Thrash Metal, Death Metal in the Swedish style and traditional Death Metal . The riffs would be reminiscent of classic Thrash Metal bands like Sepultura , while the overall appearance would evoke memories of Dissection (as for the atmosphere) or Deicide . Mark Gromen from bravewords.com reviewed Peace with Death and noted that the band is far more technically demanding than usual for a normal death and thrash metal band. Especially the changing tonality , the melodies and the guitar work would be reminiscent of Dissections Storm of the Light's Bane or the later Death . Pure Thrash Metal songs like Choices are also available.
