The Nu Boyana Film Studios ( bulg. Ню Бояна Филм Стюдиос ) are the largest film studios in Eastern Europe. The Bulgarian joint-stock company acts as a production and distribution company, often of international cinema productions. She is currently a subsidiary of Avi Lerner in Los Angeles -based production company Nu Image and Millennium Films .
The predecessor company, the film studio for feature films "Bojana" ( Студия за игрални филми "Бояна" ), was founded in 1962 as a state company. Right from the start, all production processes involved in feature films and advertising films were to be concentrated on an area of over 30 hectares in the Bojana district of Sofia . In addition to several studios, there are also outdoor props that recreate Manhattan and ancient Rome .
From the mid-1990s, the state converted the company into a stock corporation, which, however, remained 100 percent state-owned. It was sold to the Californian production company Nu Image in 2005 . It has had its current name since February 2007. Currently, around five to eight feature films are produced and financed each year, each with a production budget of between 20 and 80 million US dollars. The studios are also made available for filming. Films produced in recent years include Bloodsport IV - The Dark Kumite , Haunted Hill - The Return to the House of Secrets , The Expendables 2 , 300: Rise of an Empire , Kane & Lynch: Dead Men , Getaway , The Expendables 3 and Leatherface .
