action

Barney Ross's Expendables are tasked with freeing a Chinese billionaire who is being held hostage at a military base in Nepal . The action succeeds, with Ross helping his rival Trench, who was captured during a previous rescue attempt, to freedom, alongside the Chinese. During the return trip, Yang says goodbye to the team to accompany the billionaire back home.

Billy, the sniper on Ross' team, would like to end working with the group at the end of the month to live in Paris with his girlfriend Sophia . To settle an old bill, Ross is forced by Mr. Church to recover a safe from a plane that crashed in Albania . Maggie Chang, a young fighter and IT expert who is supposed to crack the safe, is assigned to the expendables for the mission. Arriving at the wreckage of the plane, Ross' men succeeded in recovering a package from the safe, but a little later they were ambushed by the Sangs, a feared international force of mercenaries and terrorists led by Jean Vilain. These have Billy in their power and force Ross to hand him the package. After Vilain has humiliated the crew, he kills Billy and disappears with his sang and the package in a helicopter. At Billy's grave, Ross reads a letter to Sophia and swears to take revenge on the Sangs.

Maggie tells them that the package contains a computer that in turn has a map stored on it. This leads directly to a plutonium deposit in an old Soviet mine. Vilain's plan is to recover the plutonium and sell it worldwide for millions. The Expendables manage to locate the computer and follow Vilain with her plane to Bulgaria . They spend the first night in a reconstructed neighborhood for house- to- house fighting on an abandoned Soviet base. The following morning, a large group of Sangs surprisingly attacked with the support of a tank and put the group in serious distress. Booker, an old friend of Ross, saves the lives of the Expendables by single-handedly wiping out the enemy troops and the tank. He advises Ross to seek support in a nearby village whose residents oppose the Sangs.

Once there, Ross and his team come across a group of women armed to the teeth who want to protect their children from the Sangs. The men of the village have already been picked up and forced to work in the mine, where they have to toil to the death. The women ask Ross' men to help them. The team mingles with the crowd, lures some Sangs into a trap and kills a large number of Vilain's people. Then they locate the mine and attack it with their plane, whereby they free the workers from slavery, but cannot prevent Vilain from escaping with the plutonium. The leader of the Sangs detonates a bomb that causes the mine entrance to collapse.

After Gunnar has failed to pave an escape route with an improvised phosphorus bomb, Trench and Mr. Church appear and free the expendables from the mine. With that Trench and Ross are even. At an airport , where Vilain wants to load the plutonium, there is a showdown between the Expendables and Vilain's team. Ross' team receives support from Booker, Church and Trench. While Lee Christmas takes care of Vilain's henchman Hector, Barney Ross takes on Vilain himself and finally kills him after a tough duel.

After the battle, the group led by Ross separates from Booker, Maggie, Trench and Church and enters an old Antonov An-2 - Double Decker on, a gift Churchs, the trip home. A little later in Paris, a package is delivered to Sophia, which contains not only a considerable amount of cash but also Billy's farewell letter. At the same time, the Expendables toast their fallen and avenged comrades with their battle song.

production

crew

In addition to the slightly changed cast, The Expendables 2 is the same production company. However, Sylvester Stallone's role changed compared to the previous film. Casting

This had already been planned for the predecessor, but his role at that time was deleted from the script. In addition to Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme could also be won over for the film, which was also up for debate at The Expendables , but could not identify with the role at the time. The cast was also expanded with Scott Adkins and Chuck Norris .

In addition, various rumors were circulating on the Internet about possible other actors, such as Charlie Sheen , Nicolas Cage , John Travolta or Antonio Banderas .

Sun was in stable condition again after five hours of surgery. The parents of the injured Kun Lieu sued the production company Millennium Films for 25,000 US dollars. Stunt coordinator Chad Stahelski was accused of having acted negligently and recklessly and not having ensured adequate security.

Stylistic device: image noise

The Expendables 2 sees itself, like its predecessor, as an homage to the action films of the 80s and 90s. In order to confirm this fact, those responsible for the film opted for some stylistic means for the image representation. For example, many scenes from The Expendables 2 show noticeable intentional image noise .

Trivia

On 16 November 2011, the production line of was The Expendables 2 by the Bulgarian environmental protection authority to a fine ranging between 343 $ and 3440 $ prompted that they were contrary to the removal of small shrubs and trees at the entrance of Dewetaschka Cave of the law . Although permits were obtained to allow film sets to be built in the area, including a bridge to the cave, environmentalists complained that the filming could potentially damage the cave, which was a habitat for 40 endangered species of fauna and flora . To avoid further problems, the producers agreed and pledged not to film any explosions, car chases or fires near the cave.

On November 27, 2011, Bulgarian environmentalists reported that the bat population in the cave had decreased by almost three quarters, from around 30,000 in 2010 to 8,000 in 2011. Nikolaj Simov from the Center for Bat Studies and Protection at the Bulgarian Academy Blamed the production of The Expendables 2 for reducing the bat population, der Wissenschaft said, “The filming is damaging the animal habitat - with props, the removal of plants and the large amount of people making noise. The work is a direct violation of the Bulgarian Law on Biodiversity, which prohibits disturbing and chasing away protected animal species. "
