Bloodsport IV - The Dark Kumite (Original title: Bloodsport: The Dark Kumite ) is an American film from 1999. It is the sequel to Bloodsport 3 , which was directed by Elvis Restaino . The main role was played by Daniel Bernhardt .

action

Detective John Keller overpowers a serial killer named Schrek who is running amok in town. The psychopath should have been executed a few months ago. Keller fakes a police officer and comes undercover to the Fuego Penal maximum security prison . There he takes part in illegal fights. After a few weeks in jail, he was suddenly taken away and mock execution.

The mock executions are supposed to prevent further investigations into the death row inmates so that these inmates can participate in a mysterious fight club. Keller is forced to take part in the tournament. In the final fight he is shocked and can kill him. His partner Blaire frees him and together they hunt down Caesar.

background

This film is not about the Kumite champion Alex Cardo, as in the last two parts, but about the policeman John Keller. In contrast to its three predecessors, which were only included in the video evaluation in an FSK-18 version, this film received FSK approval from the age of 16 in a slightly shortened version. The original version is - like its predecessor Bloodsport 3  - indexed. Both the FSK 18 version and the “Special Uncut Edition” have been shortened in three places. An uncut version is only available in a box with Bloodsport 3 in German-speaking countries .

The film was shot in Bulgaria with the help of the Boyana Studios production company . The prison recordings took place in a real maximum security prison. Parts of the scenes were also shot with the help of prisoners.

The actors Daniel Bernhardt and Lisa Stothard met and fell in love while filming and later married. Their marriage resulted in a child. Bernhardt, who had already played the leading role in the two previous films, attributes his involvement in this film to “contractual constraints”.

criticism

“A lying action film that pretends to preach non-violence, but uses the most brutal images to underline this need. In terms of presentation and form, the film is equally clichéd. "
