Nu Shooz is an American formation from Portland , Oregon, around the couple John Smith and Valerie Day, who were internationally successful in the mid-1980s with electronic dance music and especially with the hit single I Can't Wait .

history

Valerie Day and her husband John Smith had regional successes in Portland in the first half of the 1980s and in 1982 released the Nu-Shooz debut album Can't Turn It Off on the small label Nebula Circle . In 1985 the group recorded the single I Can't Wait b / w Don't Turn Back with Poolside Records , after which the major label Atlantic Records signed Nu Shooz. The song I Can't Wait , originally produced by the producer team "The Drone Bros." (Dick & Don), was re-released as a remix by Peter Slaghuis on Atlantic Records and became a hit parade worldwide.

The album Poolside , released shortly afterwards, was able to place in the top 40 of the LP charts in the USA, Great Britain and Germany. The follow-up single Point of No Return , also included, was a minor success in the international pop charts. In 1988, the single Should I Say Yes, taken from the album Told U So , was the last hit parade listing for Nu Shooz on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 41 . Other singles like Are You Lookin 'for Somebody Nu were featured in the American dance charts.

In 2006 Nu Shooz released an unplugged version of their successful track in an instrumentation and interpretation close to jazz .
