Nuno Capucho [ ˈnunu kɐˈpuʃu ] (born February 21, 1972 in Barcelos ; actually Nuno Fernando Gonçalves da Rocha ) is a former Portuguese football player .

career

Club teams

Capucho began his professional career with his hometown club, Gil Vicente FC, in 1990. There he played for two seasons before moving to the capital in 1992 to Sporting Lisbon . There he won his first title since he won the 1995 cup with Sporting. In the same year Capucho left the club, however, in the direction of Vitória Guimarães . In 1997 he moved to FC Porto , where he had his most successful time as a professional. With FC Porto he was three times national champion and four times cup winner . The biggest success, however, was winning the 2003 UEFA Cup against Celtic Glasgow in Seville .

After the successful triple season with FC Porto, in which he won the championship, the national cup and the European cup, Capucho moved to the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland . However, after only one season he returned to the Iberian Peninsula and went to Celta de Vigo in Spain . Here he ended his career in 2006.

National team

He had his greatest success with the national team in 1991 at the U-20 World Cup. As a member of the Golden Generation , he won the world title together with players like Luís Figo , Rui Costa and Fernando Couto .

At the 1996 Olympic Games , he took part in the soccer competitions, where the team took the ungrateful fourth place.

In the senior national team, he was in the Portuguese squad at the 2000 European Championships and the 2002 World Cup .
