Nurima Ribeiro Alkatiri (born February 1, 1982 in Maputo , Mozambique ) is a politician from East Timor and a member of the FRETILIN party .

family

Alkatiri is the daughter of Prime Minister Marí Alkatiri and former Ambassador Marina Ribeiro Alkatiri . She has two younger brothers and two children of her own. The Alkatiri family are the descendants of Arab immigrants from whom Hadramaut came to Timor in the 19th century.

Career

Alkatiri was born in Mozambique, where her parents found refuge in East Timor after the Indonesian invasion in 1975. She attended the 03 de Fevereiro elementary school in Maputo and the Colégio Delta secondary school. From 2002 to 2004, she studied environmental sciences at Charles Darwin University in Darwin , Australia, and received a bachelor's degree. From 2004 to 2005, Alkatiri worked as a national coordinator in the Arafura and Timor Seas Agency Experts Forum (ATSEF). From 2007 to 2009 she studied social sciences in Melbourne . At the same time, Alkatiri worked in the technical administration of the Timor Sea Designated Authority (TSDA). In the national department for Action Programmed Adaptation (NAPA), she worked from 2009 to 2010 at the United Nations Development Program and from 2012 to 2015 at the Australian Embassy in East Timor as Senior Gender Equality Program Coordinator , working against violence against women. Alkatiri has been involved in FRETILIN since 2015. By 2017 she completed a master's degree in international development policy at the University of Melbourne .

Alkatiri ran in the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 at number 29 of the FRETILIN list and initially missed the entry into the national parliament of East Timor as a member of parliament. Since several elected MPs resigned their seats in accordance with the constitution, as they took over government offices, Alkatiri moved up to parliament.

On September 21, 2017, Alkatiri was elected Secretary of Parliamentary Commission C for Public Finance. From September 2017, she was also a delegate of the national group of the national parliament to the parliamentary assembly of the Community of Portuguese- Speaking Countries (CPLP). In the parliamentary elections in 2018 Alkatiri did not run.
