Indonesian Aerospace (IA e) ( Indonesian PT. Dirgantara Indonesia ) is an Indonesian aircraft manufacturer , the civil and military aircraft produced. The company was founded in 1976 under the name Industri Pesawat Terbang Nurtanio with Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie as director and renamed Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN) ( English Nusantara Aircraft Industry ) in 1985 . The state-owned company has had its current name since August 2000.

In 1974 a license agreement was signed with the Spanish CASA for the production of the CASA C-212 . The twin-engine turboprop aircraft is primarily designed as a military transport aircraft with STOL properties and is therefore also suitable for short runways. In civilian use, up to 26 passengers can be carried. Almost 500 machines had been produced by 2017, over 100 of them in Indonesia - the majority there for civilian operators. Production now only takes place in Indonesia.

Also in 1974, the license production of the Bölkow Bo 105 helicopter was agreed with the German Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB) . Habibie's work in upper management at MBB and his perfect knowledge of German were beneficial here. By the end of production in 2008, 122 machines had been manufactured.

The successful entry into helicopter production over the course of time also led to the licensing of the sometimes quite large helicopter types Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma , Aérospatiale AS 332 Super Puma , Eurocopter EC 725 Cougar , Bell 412 , MBB / Kawasaki BK 117 and Eurocopter AS 350 Écureuil .

The twin-engine turboprop aircraft CASA CN-235 was developed together with CASA . The machine flew for the first time in 1983 and over 280 mostly military copies were built by 2017.

A failed project was the IPTN N-250 , flown for the first time in 1995 , which was able to carry 50 and 68 passengers in two variants. The N-250 was a twin-engine regional airliner in a shoulder-wing configuration, which was also equipped with turboprop engines. One prototype each was flown, but development stopped in 1997.

Indonesia Aerospace produces, among other things, the N219 , a 19-seater aircraft that made its maiden flight on August 16, 2017.

In addition to aircraft manufacturing, Indonesian Aerospace produces parts for numerous types of Airbus and Boeing aircraft .
