occupation

Nydenion (pronunciation: [ naɪ̯.ˈdɛnɪən ]) is a German privately funded science fiction film from 2011 .

action

The story takes place in the 22nd century. For over 50 years there has been an eternal war between the Sykon Empire and the Free Worlds Confederation, which has killed billions. Since peace talks are desired, a secret meeting for peace negotiations is arranged. However, an act of sabotage is planned, which the secret service has learned about. Rick Walker (Jack Moik), a former self-employed soldier, is assigned to escort ambassador Cynthia Perkins (Annette Schmiedel) to the place of the negotiation, as she is the only one who knows the location of the bomb. When she is injured in battle, it is revealed that Perkins is a cyborg . In the course of the story, the two discover that the saboteur comes from their own ranks. Walker's ship is attacked by its own people, so that he is forced to land on the planet Nydenion. There he manages to steal another ship in order to get on the ship of the peace negotiations. The ambassadors of the various parties are evacuated in escape pods to be on the safe side and the bomb is defused at the last minute. The top steward seems so grateful for the services Walker has provided that he wants to increase his wages up to ten times and wants to provide him with a new ship. However, Walker and Perkins both refuse and choose to live a new life on the planet.

production

The total production time was approx. 15 years. The script is based on an idea by Jack Moik, Daniel Katzer and Markus Priemer. Almost all spaceships were built as models in various scales and recorded by motion control cameras and completed using green screen technology and matte painting. Almost the entire production crew were laypeople , as were the actors. Many of the dialogues were therefore synchronized afterwards . The film was presented at FedCon shortly before its completion in 2010 . It was released directly on DVD in Germany on November 7, 2011 .

reception

The film received mixed reviews. On the one hand, the poor performance of the (lay) actors and the story is criticized, on the other hand, the high quality in relation to the low budget is praised.

Nydenion - War of the Colonies began as a small, independent fan project and over a period of 15 years has evidently grown too uncontrollably and too diverse to ultimately create a coherent overall picture. The transition to the commercial sector in particular turned out to be a few numbers too big for this film. "

- splashmovies.de

“With Nydenion there is finally another small low-budget flick that tries to satisfy the high demands of the genre fans. Well, the idea may have been successful, but whether the implementation can even come close to keeping up with a Hollywood SF flick may initially be questionable. "

- virtual dvd magazine

“What a handful of SF fans and model builders have done at Nydenion in the rumored 15 years can only earn you the greatest respect. In 1977 you shouldn't have been ashamed of it next to Star Wars. "
