Nyota Thun

Nyota Thun (* 7. June 1925 in Nordhausen as Nyota Kirchner ) is a German literary scholar .

Life

After graduating from high school, she studied Romance and Slavic Studies in Leipzig in 1944 . From 1945 to 1947 she taught Russian shorthand and grammar . During her studies, she worked as a translator for the GDR state radio in Leipzig and East Berlin. She became a member of the NDPD block party .

In 1955 Nyota Thun received her doctorate from the Humboldt University in East Berlin, where she had been teaching Russian literature since 1950 . She then worked as a research assistant at the university and as a publishing editor. From 1969 to 1985 she worked at the Central Institute for the History of Literature at the Academy of Sciences in the GDR , where she completed her habilitation in 1973 and was appointed professor in 1977.

Her husband Ferdinand Thun was a diplomat in the Soviet Union , Iran and Afghanistan .
