The O'Dowd Cove is an icy bay on the south coast of Thurston Island before Eights Coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthlands . It lies between the Williamson Peninsula and Von der Wall Point and is occupied by the Abbot Ice Shelf .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named her in 2003 after Commander William O'Dowd, flight officer of the aircraft mother ship USS Pine Island in the Eastern Group of Operation Highjump (1946-1947) of the United States Navy .
