ON Semiconductor is a US semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Phoenix , Arizona . On Semiconductor operates 24 manufacturing facilities, 28 design and 6 additional field offices in North America, Europe and Asia.

history

The company was formed in 1999 by splitting off the Semiconductor Components Group (SCG) from Motorola . The Texas Pacific Group paid Motorola US $ 1.6 billion for which it received 10% of the shares in the new company and the majority of the capital. In 2003 Motorola sold the last shares in ON Semiconductor. In 2007 the Texas Pacific Group sold its shares in ON Semiconductor. The company has been traded on the NASDAQ since it was founded (symbol on the NASDAQ : ONNN ).

The newly formed ON Semiconductor took over the manufacture and sale of Motorola's discrete components and standard products such as logic ICs and analog ICs. Since it was founded, ON Semiconductor has bought up some companies or parts of companies and integrated their products into the portfolio. In 2007, for example, the Voltage Regulation & Thermal Management Group was taken over by Analog Devices . In 2008 the company AMI Semiconductor was taken over. In 2010, ON Semiconductor took over the semiconductor division from Sanyo .

The intention to acquire Fairchild Semiconductor for US $ 2.4 billion, announced in November 2015 , was conditionally approved by the FTC in August . Since the combined market share of On and Fairchild in IGBTs for automotive ignition systems would be over 60%, the corresponding On division must be sold to the American company Littelfuse .
