history

Front view of the OOCL Chicago

The ship class consists of six ships of three different series, which were built between 1995 and 1999. The two oldest and smallest ships come from the Mitsubishi shipyard in Nagasaki, the middle two ships were built by China Shipbuilding Company in Kaohsiung. The last and largest two ships were delivered by the South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries in bunk and belong to the Samsung 5500 class series . The client for the series was the Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line, where the ships are still in service today. All six ships of the class were used in liner service between Europe and East Asia.

technology

The S-Class ships are among the Post-Panamax container ships and have a slot capacity of 5344 to 5770 TEU. The ship's superstructures are arranged about four fifths of the length aft. The machinery with a two-stroke diesel main engine that acts directly on a fixed propeller is located under the deckhouse.
