Osram Art Projects

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lighting manufacturer Osram is committed to promoting culture under the name Osram Art Projects . The three central projects are the Gallery, the Seven Screens and the Collection. Since 2013 the commitment has been continued with the art prize "LIO - The Osram Light Art Award".

gallery

The company's own gallery space was the company's former headquarters in Munich district of Giesing . In the building by Walter Henn from 1965, exhibitions by contemporary artists have been held regularly since 1966, including Arik Brauer , Herlinde Koelbl , Christian Frosch , Caroline von Grone , Wolfgang Stehle , Gabríela Fridriksdóttir , Nathalie Grenzhaeuser , Heinrich Gartentor , Davide Cantoni , Julia Kissina , Gabriele Basch , Wolfgang Kessler or Tobias Regensburger .

Collection

With the redesign of the exhibition concept in 2001 under the new director Christian Schoen , the company gradually began to buy art. The collection focuses on current art from German-speaking countries with a focus on painting, photography and sculpture. "Light" is explicitly not the thematic guideline for the exhibition and collection concept. Until 2008, purchases were made in connection with the exhibitions in the gallery, so that the collection also includes works by all exhibited artists. Since 2008 the purchases are no longer linked to the exhibitions. The digital works of art on the Seven Screens are also part of the collection.

Seven screens

The Seven Screens were a lighting technology platform for digital art projects in public spaces. The project was developed in 2006 by Osram together with Christian Schoen . On the green space between the Osram office building and the Mittlerer Ring stood seven steles, each six meters high. They are equipped with LED light technology on both sides and can be played with static or moving images. The company invited artists up to twice a year to develop site-specific art projects in public spaces . The seven screens were dismantled with the sale of the company premises in 2014 as a result of the relocation of the Osram headquarters.
