Christian Schoen

Christian Philipp Schoen (* 1970 in Marburg ) is a German art scholar, curator and local politician. He deals with classical art (such as Albrecht Dürer , Leopoldo Retti or Auguste Rodin ) and current art phenomena.

Schoen grew up in Kiel, graduated from high school there and began studying art history, psychology and political science in 1990. The graduation took place in Munich, the doctoral topic in 2000 was Albrecht Dürer ( Adam and Eve: the paintings, their history and reception by Lucas Cranach the Elder and Hans Baldung Grien ). He worked on events at the “Burda Academy for the Third Millennium”, was a lecturer at the University of St. Gallen and organized series of lectures for the University of Munich and the City of Munich's Department of Culture.

From 2000 to 2003 he headed the municipal exhibition hall Lothringer13 in Munich, from 2001 to 2013 the Osram Art Projects . In 2005 he was appointed director of the Center for Icelandic Art , which he managed until 2010. As commissioner he was responsible for the Icelandic pavilion at the Biennale di Venezia 2007 and 2009. Between 2006 and 2008 he was an advisory board member and member of the purchasing committee of the Reykjavík Art Museum. He was the initiator and chairman of the international art festival Sequences . As a freelance curator, he realizes international projects at exhibition venues and in public spaces. He is also an author for classical and contemporary art and lecturer for interdisciplinary methods at the University of St. Gallen .

As a non-party candidate, he ran for Bündnis90 / Die Grünen as mayoral candidate for the 2014 local elections in Ansbach . Since March 2014 he has been a non-partisan member of the city council, deputy mayor and deputy parliamentary group leader.

As chairman of the Förderverein Retti eV (named after the court architect Leopoldo Retti ), he campaigns for the preservation of listed buildings and ensembles in Ansbach.
