The obelisk in Brunoy , a French town in the Essonne department in the Île-de-France region , was erected in 1779. The obelisk has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as a Monument historique since 1934 .

The obelisk was designed by the architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot on behalf of the Comte de Provence , later King Louis XVIII. , built. He was in the forest of Senart , on the road from Paris to Lyon , a base for hunting parties.
