Oberbaar is a parish village and district of Baar in the district of Aichach-Friedberg , which belongs to the administrative district of Swabia in Bavaria .

geography

Oberbaar is located directly south of the neighboring town of Unterbaar in the valley of the Kleine Paar on the plateau of the Lower Lechrain of the Aindlinger terrace staircase . In terms of natural space, it belongs to the Donau-Iller-Lech-Platte , which in turn is part of the Alpine foothills , one of the main natural spatial units in Germany . State road 2047 from Rain to Aichach
runs through Oberbaar .

history

St. Lorenz Church

In the summer of 2015, 101 burials were uncovered in Oberbaar in a cemetery that was provisionally dated to the second half of the 7th and early 8th centuries. A few meters further north, 42 body graves from the same period were discovered in 1977.

Oberbaar was first mentioned at the beginning of the 13th century as Oberparte or Superior Parra . The name can be traced back to the little couple who run through Oberbaar. From Parra was Barre and later Baar .
The political history of Oberbaar is linked to that of Unterbaar , to whose Hofmark Oberbaar always belonged.
Various landlords had estates in Oberbaar: Marquard von Stuben , the Thierhaupten Monastery , the Oberbaar Church Foundation, the Ebenried Parish , the Rain Hospital Beneficion and the Pessenburgheim Affiliate Church Foundation .

The Catholic parish Sankt Laurentius is vicarious from the mother parish Sankt Peter und Paul in the neighboring village Thierhaupten . The well-known pilgrimage church Maria im Elend in the woods west of Oberbaar also belongs to the parish .

On January 1, 1972, the union with Unterbaar to form the new municipality of Baar (Swabia) . On May 1, 1978 Baar was incorporated into the Thierhaupten market ( Augsburg district ). On January 1, 1994, after a long struggle, Baar regained its independence and has since been part of the Aichach-Friedberg district and the Pöttmes administrative community .
