Oberhof was a location in the Beyenburg-Mitte residential area of the Langerfeld-Beyenburg district in the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal . The location, which was free-standing until the end of the 1980s, is now part of a closed residential development and the name Oberhof is no longer in the minds of the population as an independent name for this location.

Location and description

The location was at an altitude of 281  m above sea level. NHN at the intersection of today's streets Steinhauser Straße and Siegelberg .

In addition to the western part of Beyenburg, neighboring locations include Beyenburger Lohmühle , Scharpenstein , Steinhaus , Siegelberg, In der Grüne , Sondern , Windfoche , Obersondern and Mosblech . To the west is the Sondernbusch forest area .

Etymology and history

Oberhof is recorded as Hoberhof on the Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715 . On the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 the place is listed as Hoferhof and on the Prussian first survey of 1843 as Höferhof .

In 1815/16 28 people lived in the village. In 1832, Oberhof was part of the Walbrecken Honschaft , which now belonged to the mayor's office in Lüttringhausen . Which according to the statistics and topography of the district of Dusseldorf as Ackergut designated place had at this time two houses and three agricultural buildings. At that time, 14 residents lived in the place, five Catholic and nine Protestant faith. In the parish dictionary for the Rhineland province of 1888, two houses with twelve inhabitants are given.

The Heerweg Cologne – Dortmund (today Steinhauser Strasse) and the Elberfeld line of the Bergische Landwehr crossed near Oberhof . While the Heerweg near Oberhof lost its importance around 1813 due to the new construction of the Chaussee from Lennep to Beyenburg (today Landstrasse 411), the Landwehr wall was still there until the 1980s and went down with the expansion of the Siegelberg settlement .
