The Oberleitungsbusstrecke Murodo-Daikanbo ( Japanese 立山黒部貫光無軌条電車線 Tateyama Kurobe Kanko trackless, electric line or shortened Japanese 立山トンネルトロリーバス, Tateyama tonneru tororībasu also Tateyama tunnel trolley ) is the last Oberleitungsbusbetrieb in Japan .

Route

The 3.7-kilometer route in Toyama Prefecture is completely underground. It was opened in 1971 with diesel buses and switched to electric operation on April 23, 1996. The supply voltage is 600 volts direct current . Legally, the operation is considered a railway . The operating company is Tateyama Kurobe Kankō KK ( 立 山 黒 部 貫 光 株式会社 ), which also operates cable cars and bus routes - which together form the Tateyama Kurobe Alps Route - as well as inns. Tateyama and Kurobe refer to a mountain and a river or the dam of the same name in the company's traffic area. Kan (actually: "pierce") is supposed to mean space-time and (actually: "light") space, together with the entirety of nature. The identical kankō also means sightseeing, the company name can therefore be understood as "Tateyama-Kurobe-Sightseeing".

The route connects the stations Daikanbō ( 大 観 峰 駅 , -eki ; 2316 meters) with Murodō ( 室 堂 駅 , -eki ; 2450 meters) and passes under the 3015 meter high Tateyama mountain. The route is part of the Tateyama Kurobe Alps Route. The one-way trip takes ten minutes. A previously existing branch to Raiden ( 雷 殿 駅 , -eki ) is no longer served. The route is single-lane throughout, halfway there is a siding available. With the exception of the siding, the overhead line is also single-lane. A turning loop is available at each of the two end points . The operation is shaped by tourism. The total of eight solo cars only run from April to November. They have the road numbers 8001 to 8008 and were manufactured by Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation in 1995 and 1996 on the occasion of electrification .

From 1964 to 2018 there was another trolleybus route between Ogizawa and the Kurobe Dam on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route .
