Obermühle (Büren)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The upper mill was located near Gut Holthausen in the urban area of Büren (Westphalia) in the Paderborn district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

The Obermühle was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1256. In the first few years it was used as a grain mill by the cistinists of the Holthausen monastery . Later the mill was also used as a paper mill , in which tree trunks were crushed. On June 28, 1907, the city council of Büren decided to buy the mill and convert it into a power station. In 1908 the water turbine with a capacity of 2600 liters per second was installed. With the water falling 1.90 m high, a maximum output of 55 hp could be achieved. Due to the increasing demand for energy, the Büren-Brilon Electricity Association (EVBB) was founded and bought the mill in 1914. The mill ditch was partially filled in during these measures. In 1916 the upper ditch was built to supply the power station with more water. The mill was demolished in 1984.
