Oberndorf , together with its partner village Angelhausen, is a district of Arnstadt in the Ilm district in Thuringia .

location

The street village is located one kilometer southeast of the city of Arnstadt between the Reinsberge in the south and the southern edge of the Thuringian Basin in the north, at about 320 meters above sea level. Angelhausen is adjacent to the northwest. To the south is the wooded grove with the Schlossberg and the hill that once supported the Käfernburg . Then the Thuringian Basin begins. Both villages have merged structurally over time and the city of Arnstadt has grown closer to Angelhausen.

history

About 600 meters east of the hill of the former Käfernburg is a group of individual graves on the northern edge of the Hain hill, traces of the first settlers. Oberndorf was first mentioned in a document in 1315. Other villages in the area are older because their establishment was more independent. The village church of St. Nicolai dates from the 12th century. It was the castle chapel . Today the bare mountain hill with the remains of a rampart heralds the Käfernburg, which was already in ruins in the 16th century. The stones were used to build Neideck Castle . The Dorotheenthal estate belonged to the Duchess, was at times a doll manufacture, was occasionally empty and is now a retirement home .

For other similarities with Angelhausen, reference is made to the article on the Angelhausen district.
