Angelhausen , together with its partner town Oberndorf , is part of the city of Arnstadt in the Ilm district in Thuringia .

location

The street village of Angelhausen is located directly on the south-eastern city limits of Arnstadt between the Reinsberge in the south and the Thuringian Basin in the north, at about 320 meters above sea level. To the south is Oberndorf, the wooded grove with the Schlossberg and the bare mountain hill on which the Käfernburg stood. Over the years, Angelhausen has merged with Oberndorf and the urban area of Arnstadt through construction work.

history

About 600 meters east of the hill of the former Käfernburg there is a group of individual graves on the northern edge of the hill, traces of the first settlers. Angelhausen was first mentioned in a document on March 27, 948. The anglers are said to have settled here before, hence the name. This tribe immigrated from Denmark to the area around Ebeleben , Großenehrich , Greußen . A splinter group moved here and founded the village. The Käfernburg was located on the Schlossberg (castle hill) south of the village. In the early Middle Ages, the Counts of Käfernburg ruled over it. In 1385 the Kevernburg family died out. Today the bare mountain cone with the remains of the ramparts heralds the castle, which was already in ruins in the 16th century . The stones were used to build Neideck Castle .

The village church of St. Nicolai in Oberndorf dates from the 12th century. It was a castle chapel . The Thirty Years War wreaked havoc on the town. The Angelhaus Church had not been used in the recent past and was in danger of deteriorating. With donations and contributions, it was almost completely restored and reopened by 2006.
