Oberndorf (Frankershausen)

Oberndorf is a former small settlement in the district of Frankershausen , in the municipality of Berkatal in northern Hesse Werra-Meissner . It is not entirely clear when it was given up and turned into desolation . In 1691 another manor in Oberndorf is mentioned. The Oberdorfer Mühle, which still exists today, is located in the area of ​​the former settlement.

The settlement was located about 1.2 km north of the center of Frankershausen and about 200 m south of the two karst springs Breitenborn and Kressenborn , at 256  m above sea level. NN in the valley floor between Marstein (321 m) and Ellerstein (323 m). Their name was probably based on their location above Frankershausen.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1343. It was owned by the Landgraves of Hesse , who had bought it from the last Count of Bilstein , Otto II, in 1301, along with all of the then remaining possessions . Like the neighboring Borne and Frankershausen downstream, the place belonged to the landgrave's court of Bilstein , and according to the Bilsteiner official invoice from 1414, both dues and service fees were paid. In 1498, according to Bilsteiner Salbuch , there were four fireplaces in the village, and the mill is mentioned as belonging to the landgrave. In 1585 there is talk of a farm with three households, and in 1691 there was still an estate. It was owned by those von Dörnberg , who had held the castle and the village of Frankershausen as a Hessian fiefdom since the second half of the 15th century and until 1761 .
