geography

location

The village of Oberroßla is about 3 km to the west from the center of Apolda. Oberroßla is on the right side of the Ilm on the slope of a mountain. The place has now grown structurally with Apolda.

Rödigsdorf is about 5.6 km southwest of Apolda city center. The largest business park in the city of Apolda, the “B 87” business park, is located between Oberroßla and Rödigsdorf. It got its name because of the adjacent federal road 87 , which also runs through Rödigsdorf and Oberroßla and divides both places.

District Oberroßla

Stone Age finds suggest that the origin of today's settlement lies in the east of today's village of Oberroßla. On October 29, 1297 the place Oberroßla was first mentioned in a document. The name is made up of the syllables “Ober-” (reference to elevated position), “ross-” (reference to “horse industry” as the main line of business) and “la” (from Indo-European).

Rödigsdorf was first mentioned in documents in 1136. Emperor Lothar III. donated a hoof to Rödigsdorf to the Kaltenborn monastery. From an economic point of view, the place was dominated by agriculture until the political change in 1990. With the development of the “B 87” business park, businesses also settled in Rödigsdorf. In 2000 the place was included in the village renewal program. Thus, the streets and squares in the village could be thoroughly renovated and beautified. The local church was rebuilt between 1990 and 2004.
