Oberrohr is a district of the municipality Rohr bei Hartberg , the cadastral municipality of the same name is 460.64 hectares in size.

Geography and history

Chapel top tube

The foundation took place on a right branch of the Lungitz (the name Oberrohr suggests that this was then overgrown with reed beds) around an artesian well on princely soil as a grave village complex in the first half of the 13th century. Attested as property of the Lords von Neuberg in 1357, bequeathed to the Canon Monastery of Pöllau in 1482, where it remained until the abolition of the manor. Due to its location on the border with Hungary, the place was severely affected several times (1418 Hungarians, 1532 Turks, 1616 Hungarians) or completely destroyed by the Kurucs at the beginning of the 18th century (1704, 1707).

Oberrohr was initially a regular settlement community with regular village facilities and land distribution with common land, which was later divided. A village judge was at the head of the settlement community . With the creation of the political communities (community leader or mayor at the top) in 1850, the KG Oberrohr local community. On January 1, 1959, the municipality of Oberrohr was merged with the municipality of Unterrohr to form the new municipality of Rohr bei Hartberg.
