The OceanaGold Corporation was founded in 2007 in Vancouver , British Columbia , Canada founded with the aim of the Australia-based company Oceana Gold Pty Ltd to undertake its activities in gold mining. With the takeover, the history of OceanaGold Corporation goes back to 1989, with the establishment of Oceana Gold Ltd on December 24, 2003 in Melbourne , Australia and the takeover of Macraes Mining Company Limited .

Corporate activities

As of December 2018, the company operates four mines in three different countries, the Macraes Gold Mine in Otago on the South Island of New Zealand, which is planned to be operated at least until 2020, and the Martha Mine in the town of Waihi in the Waikato region on the North Island of New Zealand, in which gold is to be mined until at least 2019, the gold and copper mine in Didipio on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, which is estimated to be in operation until at least 2032, and the Haile mine in South Carolina , in which was won gold for the first time since 2017 and the planning horizon of the mine extends until at least 2030.

In May 2015, OceanaGold Corporation acquired an interest in Gold Standard Ventures (GSV), a Canadian company active in the mining exploration space. The stake in the company was increased to 16.55% on March 31, 2017. In March 2016, OceanaGold Corporation announced that it would acquire a stake in NuLegacy Gold , which is currently exploring Nevada to find high-yield gold veins. As of March 31, 2017, OceanaGold Corporation held 16.2% of the company and hopes to be able to participate in the so-called "Iceberg Project" .

The OceanaGold Corporation signed a letter of intent to participate in the La Curva Gold Project of Mirasol Recource Ltd in the province of Santa Cruz in Argentina in February 2017. A participation then followed on May 18, 2017 with the option to purchase a share of 70 % of the joint venture.
