Odd Højdahl

Odd Højdahl (* 5. January 1921 in Oslo ; † 23. February 1994 ) was a Norwegian trade union functionary and politicians , who in the first government of Prime Minister Trygve Bratteli was 1971-1972 Minister of Social Affairs.

Højdahl, son of the manager Jacob Højdahl and the musician Anna Augusta Myhrvold, began studying at the commercial school after attending school in 1940 and studied law from 1941 to 1943 . In 1945 he joined the police as constable , which he left in 1946 to become secretary of the vocational training council (Yrkesopplæringsrådet) . In 1948 he switched to the employment office (Arbeidsdirektoratet) as head of vocational training and held this position until 1951.

At this time he also began his commitment as a union official and was from 1948 to 1953 of the workers' league in the Oslo district of Høyenhall and from 1951 to 1957 vice-chairman of the public service union NTL (Norsk Tjenestemannslag) . In addition, he began his political career in local politics and was a member of the Oslo City Council between 1953 and 1957. During this time he completed in 1954 a course for organization theory at Harvard University .

In 1957, Odd Højdahl joined the state employees' union (Statstjenestemannskartellet) and was its secretary between 1957 and 1960, before he was secretary of the umbrella organization of the LO ( Landsorganisasjonen i Norge ) trade unions between 1960 and 1969 . During this time he was in Burma in 1962 on behalf of the International Labor Organization (ILO) .

In the election of September 11, 1961 , he was elected as a candidate of the Arbeiderpartiet for Oslo to the vice-member of the Storting and held this position until the election on September 13, 1965 .

In addition to his full-time work as LO secretary, he was also chairman of the union of state employees between 1963 and 1969 and then vice-chairman of the trade union umbrella organization LO from 1969 to 1977. In addition, he held numerous other functions due to these functions and was, among other things, a member of the board of the employment office from 1963 to 1977 and a member of the board of directors of the daily Arbeiderbladet and at the same time of structural finance between 1969 and 1977 . Between 1968 and 1969 he was Vice-Chairman of the NORAD Development Aid Directorate (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation) and from 1970 to 1977 he was a member of the board of the state-owned metallurgical company A / S Norsk Jernverk .

On March 17, 1971 Højdahl was appointed by Prime Minister Trygve Bratteli as Minister of Social Affairs (Sosialminister) in his first government, which he belonged to the end of Bratteli's term on October 18, 1972.

After finishing his post as vice-chairman of LO, Odd Højdahl became director of Statens Arbeidstilsyn in 1977 , the State Labor Inspectorate under the responsibility of the Ministry of Labor. He remained in this position until 1988 and was also a board member of the Institute for Labor Research from 1977 to 1987. He has also been a board member of von Den Norske Creditbank since 1978 and a board member of Produktregisteret , a newly established facility for the registration of imported chemicals or chemicals produced in Norway, since 1981 . In addition, since 1982 he has also been chairman of the board of trustees for regional security officers.
