Odd Riisnæs

Odd Riisnæs (* 12. May 1953 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian jazz - saxophonist (tenor and soprano saxophone) and piano .

Odd Riisnæs is the son of pianist Eline Nygaard and brother of jazz saxophonist Knut Riisnæs .

Riisnæs initially worked in various orchestras and bands such as von Terje Lie, Paul Weeden , Ditlef Eckhoff, Richard Badendyck, Per Husby, Ole Jacob Hansen / Harald Gundhus , Dag Arnesen , Jens Wendelboe , Kjell Karlsen and Jan Harrington. In the 1980s he played in the formations Kråbøl , Oslo 13 , Radiostorbandet and Lille Frøen Saksofonkvartett . In the late 1980s he founded his Odd Riisnæs Quartet with pianist Dag Arnesen, bassist Kåre Garnes and drummer Tom Olstad and recorded three albums for the Taurus Records label , Speak Low (1987), Thoughts (1990) and Another Version (1993) ), which included keyboardist Iver Kleive, guitarist Steinar Larsen and bassist Terje Gewelt . Later he formed the Odd Riisnæs Project with the drummer Pål Thowsen , the bassist Bjørn Kjellemyr and Steinar Larsen ( Your Ship , 1996 and Another Breeze , 2003).

Riisnæs taught at the Norges Musikkhøgskole .
