Hov havnemole

Odderbanen was a standard gauge private railway in Jutland , Denmark ; it initially linked Aarhus , Odder and Hov . The approximately 37 km long route was opened on June 19, 1884 by the Hads-Ning Herreders Jernbane (HHJ). On May 22, 1977, the section from Odder to Hov was closed. On December 9, 2012, Odderbanen was merged with Grenaabanen to form Aarhus Nærbane , and passenger traffic has since been operated by the Danish State Railways DSB . The Aarhus – Odder section has been part of the Aarhus Letbane since 2018 .

route

The line is single-track with crossing stations and was not originally electrified. After dismantling the 10.4 km long section from Odder to Hov, the route is now 26.5 km long. The maximum permissible speed on the route is 75 km / h, but it can only be driven in a few places because of the close proximity of stops and curves.

In the 1970s, a few additional stops were built. T. were given up again.

In the period from July to October 2008, the line was completely renovated. New tracks with concrete sleepers were laid between Odder and Tranbjerg , the signal cables were replaced and the new Nørrevænget stop was built. As part of the integration into the Aarhus light rail network, the line was electrified, and extensive renovation work was carried out. On August 25, 2018, light rail operations began on the route.

With the exception of the train station in Odder, all stations along the route are sold. Since then, they have been used commercially by craftsmen or artists or as houses.

The Odderbanen begins at Århus Central Station and runs through urban development on its own route parallel to the DSB line to Skanderborg to Viby station. After Viby there is a winding section through rural areas past Tranbjerg, Mørslet and Beder to Assedrup. The rest of the section to Odder has only a few curves. The train runs through the city to the train station at the southern end of the village, today's end of the line. The route led in a left curve to Houvej, which runs in sections on the former railway line and on a direct route to the port of Hov.

Freight transport

General freight transport has long ceased to take place, only service goods such as gravel, sleepers, bulky spare parts etc. are occasionally still transported by rail to Odder.

Odder train station

The station in Odder was an important transit station when the line opened. On May 14, 1904, the Horsens – Odder Jernbane (HOJ) opened the line from Odder to Horsens. With the closure of this line on March 31, 1967, Odder became a through station again and with the closure of the section to Hov, it became the end point of the Odderbane.

vehicles

Between 1968 and 1984 DUEWAG supplied a total of seven two-part Lynette multiple units (motor car Ym 31 - 36, control car Ys 41 - 47), which were used until 2012. The local population sometimes referred to these vehicles as "Odder-grisen" (Odderschwein) because the front of the railcar is supposed to be reminiscent of a pig's nose.

It was succeeded by Desiro multiple units of the DSB, MQ series , which offered contemporary passenger comfort with air-conditioned compartments, barrier-free entrances and bicycle compartments.

The route has been used by Stadler Variobahn trams since 2018 .
