Odorico Sáiz

Odorico Leovigildo Sáiz Pérez OFM (born February 6, 1912 in Revilla del Campo near Burgos , Spain ; † October 14, 2012 in Logroño , Spain) was Vicar Apostolic of Requena .

Life

Odorico Leovigildo Sáiz Pérez joined the Congregation of the Franciscan (OFM) in Anguciana , La Rioja , in and received the priestly ordination on March 13, 1937. He was a missionary in the Peruvian Amazon region and engaged there for the education and training of future priests. In his order he held various offices.

In 1973 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. Appointed Titular Bishop of Simingi and Vicar Apostolic of Requena in Peru. The Archbishop of Lima , Juan Cardinal Landázuri Ricketts , ordained him episcopal on March 10, 1974; Co- consecrators were his predecessor Valeriano Ludovico Arroyo Paniego and Leonardo José Rodriguez Ballón , Archbishop of Arequipa .

His resignation was granted in 1987 by Pope John Paul II . He lived in Logroño, Spain, and worked as a historian and lecturer at the Franciscan Seminary there.

In 2002 Sáiz was awarded the Gold Medal of Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo by the Peruvian Bishops' Conference in recognition of his great service to the Church in Peru.
