description
The half-timbered house is a single-storey residential building. It has a characteristic overhang of the roof with supporting lugs underneath . It's at a bend in Meinstrasse. In connection with the neighboring house, there is a small space-like area in the kink. There was a 300-year-old chestnut that fell in a storm on Ascension Day 1979.
The previous building was the executioner's house in the village. It burned down in the city fire of 1604 and was rebuilt in its present form for the executioner . It has a massive stone basement that protrudes 1.2 meters from the ground due to the high groundwater level . The basement was also used as a prison. A torture chamber was on the side of the house and was only accessible from the outside. It had a small window that could be closed with a hatch. According to a description of the patch Vorsfelde 1761 the court was of the plot only 60 square meters. The last executioner was Johann Conrad Löwe († 1801), who exercised the office as a part-time job and was a skinner in the district of Vorsfelde in his main job . When a family named Nacke bought the building in 1842, the torture devices were sold; the superintendent of the Provost's Vorsfelde kept the sword . It later came to the Landesmuseum Braunschweig .
The former executioner 's house is the second oldest house in Vorsfelde after the beekeeper's house from 1590.
