The local newspaper appears in Wolfsburg in the Madsack Medien Ostniedersachsen GmbH & Co. KG (MMO), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Madsack publishing house from Hanover ( Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung ).

The WAZ works closely with the Aller newspaper , which appears in Gifhorn and is also published by MMO.

In addition, MMO also publishes the Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung and the advertising papers Hallo Wochen Peine, Hallo Wochen Salzgitter, Hallo Wochen Gifhorn and Hallo Wochen Wolfsburg.

In the Wolfsburg area, the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung competes with the Wolfsburger Nachrichten , a headline of the Braunschweiger Zeitung .

The local section and a large part of the sports coverage of the WAZ are created in Wolfsburg, the national section, the so-called coat , is provided by the central editorial office RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) based in Hanover . The WAZ is printed in Celle.

history

The first edition of the newspaper appeared on January 18, 1951. The original publisher was Hugo Enke, a publisher from Gifhorn , and the newspaper's first office was located in the Wolfsburg district of Schillerteich (Suhlgarten 8). Wilhelm Wember was its editor-in-chief at the time . In 1954, the office moved to a new building at Porschestrasse 78, and in 2003 to its current location at Porschestrasse 74. On January 1, 2013, Adolf Enke GmbH & Co. KG was incorporated into Madsack Medien Ostniedersachsen GmbH & Co. KG with its headquarters in Torment .

The circulation of the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung is shown together with the sister publication Aller-Zeitung .
