occupation
The ballet is cast for:
- small flute
- flute
- oboe
- English horn
- Clarinet in Bb (+ clarinet in Eb)
- Bass clarinet in B
- bassoon
- Contrabassoon
- 2 horns in F
- small trumpet in Bb
- Drums
- harp
- banjo
- Violin I.
- Violin II
- viola
- violoncello
- double bass
It is noticeable that the line-up differs greatly from the classical symphonic line-up; apart from a trumpet, no brass whatsoever is used, and the drum kit is missing in the drums. The occupied banjo is also very atypical for a classical orchestra. Another characteristic is the great variety of percussion instruments that make up the rhythmic character of the music.
