The Ogna da Pardiala ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Sursilvan for Wiesenau ) is a meadow landscape of national importance between Tavanasa and Rueun in the Surselva in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .

location

The three and a half kilometers long and around 100 hectare large protected area is located at an altitude of 740  m above sea level. M. on the right side of the Vorderrhein between the river and the tracks of the Rhaetian Railway . After the national park, it is the largest nature reserve in the canton.

The Ogna da Pardiala are remnants of the formerly widespread floodplains in the valley floor. Due to bank construction and drainage, the floodplains are no longer in the floodplain of the Rhine. Individual areas are flooded by side streams, especially in spring.

In the area of ​​the Ogna da Pardiala there is a tiered use; from intensive pasture to areas where interventions are only allowed to maintain the protection goal. Most of the area is traditionally grazed without fertilization. Additional water bodies were created to enlarge the water surface.

At the mouth of the Valaterbach there is a typical Bachau with willows and gray alders , black elderberries and bird cherries . Reeds and sedges thrive on oxbow lakes and ponds . Dry grass with around 40 plant species grows on grazed gravel areas .

The Ogna da Pardiala offers breeding grounds for numerous water birds and a habitat for migrants . These include the kingfisher , marsh warbler , sandpiper , dipper and snipe . Rare songbird species such as red-backed killer , hoopoe , whinchat and warbler have been spotted. The standing waters are spawning grounds for numerous amphibians such as mountain newt , common frog and common toad . The floodplains are an important habitat for various lizards, snakes and smaller mammals.
