Okahu is a small settlement in the Far North District of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
The name Okahu can be interpreted in the Māori language as follows: " O " means place or place and " kahu " can be equated with chief or falcon.
geography
The settlement is located around 3 km south of the center of Kaitaia and can be reached via Okahu Road from the connecting road between Kaitaia and Ahipara . The settlement is on the southern edge of the plain of the Awanui River and north of the up to 558 m high mountains, which find their highest point in the Taumatamahoe .
