Oktjabrskoje ( Russian Октябрьское , until 1941 Popowkina / Поповкина ; German Jost , also Just ) was a German village on the Volga in Russia .

It was about 50 kilometers as the crow flies south of Engels on the left bank of the Volga, called the meadow side there, not far from the confluence of the Popowka brook between the present-day villages of Tschkalowka (formerly German Laub ; rural community Tarlykowka , formerly Dinkel ) and Jablonowka (formerly Lauwe ; rural community Priwolschskoje , formerly Kukkus ) in Rovnoe District of Saratov Oblast .

history

The village was founded on July 5, 1767 by 148 Lutheran immigrants from Germany. Most of the first settlers were farmers, as well as a blacksmith and two cobblers. Three windmills were built in the area. The village was later combined with five other villages to form Volost Alexandrow. In addition to the German name Jost or Just , it had the official Russian name Popowkina.

After the deportation of the Volga German residents in 1941, the name was changed to Oktjabrskoje (about October village , after the October Revolution ). In 1970 Oktyabrskoje was subordinate to the village soviet of the village Privolschskoje of the Engels district, 8 km northwest of the Volga River, from which the Rownoje district was spun off again in the same year. This had already existed until 1962, and Oktjabrskoje, like the neighboring villages, belonged to it since the annexation of the Priwolschskoje Rajon, which was independent until 1956 (before 1941: Canton Kukkus).

The village existed until the late 1980s.
