Olaf Cunitz (born June 20, 1968 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German politician ( Die Grünen ). From 2012 to July 2016 he was mayor and department head for planning and construction of the city of Frankfurt am Main.

School and study

In 1987 Cunitz graduated from the Bettinaschule in Frankfurt and then studied Medieval and Modern History at the Goethe University there .

Free economy and state parliament

From 1997 to 2004 Olaf Cunitz was a project manager in the field of international market research . In 2005 he became a regional office employee of the state parliament members Mathias Wagner and Marcus Bocklet . He carried out this activity for two years.

After leaving the Frankfurt magistrate , Cunitz took over the management of building land and project development at DSK Deutsche Stadt- und Grundstücksentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH in Wiesbaden from November 2016 .

Political career

Cunitz has been active in the Frankfurt am Main district association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen since 1998. A year later he became a member of the party. He was board spokesman for the Frankfurt Greens from 2001 to 2007, he was city councilor from April 2006 to March 2012. At the same time (since June 2006) he was also chairman of the Greens in the Römer .

From March 15, 2012 to July 14, 2016, Olaf Cunitz was Mayor of the City of Frankfurt and Department Head for Planning and Building (Department II). After the Greens were voted out of office in the 2016 local elections in Frankfurt, he left office.
