Olaf Jacobs

Olaf Jacobs (* 1972 in Leipzig ) is a German director, film and television producer.

biography

From 1993 to 1995, Olaf Jacobs was an editor at the public service broadcaster. In 1996 he founded Hoferichter & Jacobs GmbH together with the film author and director Matthias Hoferichter, which he has been managing as sole managing director since 1999. Jacobs is the author, producer and director of numerous reports and TV documentaries and has been teaching as a lecturer at various universities and colleges since 2002 and is also a trainer at the media academies of public broadcasters. In 2014, Rector Beate Schücking appointed him honorary professor for “Economics of Film and TV Production” at the Institute for Communication and Media Studies at the University of Leipzig . In 2016 he was visiting professor at the Polish State University for Film, Television and Theater Łódź .

His productions include documentaries such as Forgetting Dad (directed by Rick Minnich & Matt Sweetwood, IDFA 2008, Max Ophüls Prize 2009), Unter Männer - Schwul in der DDR (directed by Ringo Rösener & Markus Stein, Berlinale 2012), Grenz ( Director: Holger Jancke, Berlinale 2004) and Homemade Hillbilly Jam (director: Rick Minnich, HotDocs 2005) as well as feature films such as Balkan Traffic - Übermorgen Nirgendwo (director: Markus Stein & Milan Puzic), Three Girls (director: Murad Ibragimbekvov) or Drei Stern Red (Director: Olaf Kaiser). The television documentary series DDR ahoi! (Director: Lutz Pehnert ) received the Grimme Prize in 2011 in the “Information & Culture / Multi-Part” category. With series like "Who Owns the East?" Together with colleagues, he developed a special form of contemporary historical documentation. In the past few years, the focus has been on interactive and cross-media projects.

Olaf Jacobs is a member of the German and the European Film Academy .

Greatest sporting success

Olaf Jacobs is a sailor (boat class Sonar ) and took fourth place with his team (Peter Reichl, Jens Krocker) at the Paralympics 2004 in Athens .
