Olaf Leitner (born November 28, 1942 in Berlin ) is a German music journalist and non-fiction author .

Life

Leitner studied German, theater studies and journalism. In 1965 he was a member of the West Berlin band Team Beats Berlin , which appeared as the opening act for the Rolling Stones at a concert in West Berlin's Waldbühne that ended with the destruction of the Waldbühne. From 1968 Leitner worked for the radio station RIAS in West Berlin, initially as a freelancer. In 1974 he became music editor and presenter and from 1975 he was part of the Rock over RIAS team with Walter Bachauer and Barry Graves . The programs were aimed primarily at a young audience in the GDR . In 1976 he took in the musician Klaus (Jentzsch) Renft , who had been expelled from the GDR, and thus gained insights into the GDR's rock music scene. Thanks to Leitner's support, Jentzsch got a job as RIAS music editor. Leitner also played GDR titles in his programs and was in charge of the GDR band City's first appearance in West Berlin. In 1983 his work Rockszene DDR - aspects of a mass culture in socialism appeared .

1986 RIAS 2 was converted to pop wave; Leitner was henceforth editor for cultural policy. In 1992 he moved to Radio Brandenburg as head of the culture department . In 1994 he started his own business as a freelance writer and journalist. Leitner was one of the authors of the KI.KA television series Little Amadeus, which was first broadcast in 2006 and is still broadcast in many countries today (as of 2012). He wrote columns and music reviews for the Berlin magazine Tip . At the Hamburg internet radio station ByteFM , he has hosted the West-Östlicher Diwan show every two weeks since November 2008 and every four weeks from August 2010, combining music from the west and the “old” and “new” East of Germany.
