Olaf Schwencke

Olaf Schwencke (born January 27, 1936 in Pinneberg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former member of the German Bundestag .

Life

After leaving school, Schwencke completed an apprenticeship as a ship mechanic from 1953 to 1955 . After attending an evening high school from 1955 to 1958, he received the Abitur. He then studied German , education , theology and sociology at the universities of Hamburg, Cleveland (USA) and Berlin from 1958 to 1964 . He received his doctorate in 1967 at the University of Hamburg with a dissertation on the subject of glossing Old Testament books in the Lübeck Bible of 1494 . Since 1969 he was director of studies at the Evangelical Academy Loccum and published numerous scientific publications.

In 1960 Schwencke had already joined the SPD and represented it from 1966 to 1970 in the Pinneberg district assembly. He was President of the Cultural Political Society and a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . From 1972 to 1980 he was a member of the German Bundestag, then in the legislative period following the first direct election he was a member of the European Parliament .
