Old Man's Child is a metal band from Norway whose style evolved from earlier death metal influences into symphonic black metal with typical thrash metal riffs.

Band history

Old Man's Child was founded in the summer of 1993. Previously, the band was called Requiem and played traditional primarily death metal - cover . Apart from a self-recorded demo in an edition of 50 copies, Requiem produced nothing.

After the change of name to Old Man's Child, the band recognized their love for Black Metal , which shaped the future style of the band significantly, which was not least due to the arrival of the former Dimmu Borgir bassist Brynjard Tristan. After their demo In Shades of Life was released, the scene became aware of Old Man's Child. This was followed in 1995 by the debut album Born of the Flickering , the production of which was supported by Shagrath , the singer of Dimmu Borgir.

From this point on, the line-up of the band changed constantly, the only constant member besides “Master-Mind” Galder was Jarder. One reason for this, however, is Galder's commitment as a guitarist and songwriter with Dimmu Borgir. In the fall of 1997, the second album The Pagan Prosperity appeared on Century Media . With a further change in the line-up, the band toured with Rotting Christ and Sacramentum in 1997 .

The key to a certain success was finally the fourth album Revelation 666 - The Curse Of Damnation , released in 2000 , which was produced by Peter Tägtgren ( Hypocrisy ) in his Abyss studio . The album Vermin was created in collaboration with the drummer Reno H. Kiilerich, while Galder took over all the other instruments in the studio. The latest album Slaves of the World shows Galder musically much more mature and progressive.

At the moment, Old Man's Child consists only of Galder and drummers who change from album to album. Since the summer of 2000, Galder has also been the lead guitarist with Dimmu Borgir, which currently gives Old Man's Child the status of a studio side project.
