Old Skull was an American hardcore punk band from Madison , Wisconsin that was formed in 1989 and disbanded in 1992. Due to the young age of the band members, the group is considered one of the youngest punk bands .

history

The band was formed in 1989 and initially consisted of three nine-year-old boys: JP Toulon as guitarist and singer, Jamie Toulon as keyboardist and Jesse Collins-Davies as drummer. The producer was Vern Toulon , who was also the father of two of the three members. Toulon was a member of the Madison punk scene and had also spent time in New York City . Jesse Collins-Davies was the father of Robin Davies, a member of the punk band Tar Babies from Madison, which had an album release on SST Records . The band reached a contract with Restless Records which released two albums. The same year the debut album Get outta School was released . On the second album, CIA Drug Fest , which was released in 1992, the members were twelve years old, although the line-up had changed. JP Toulon switched to drums, while his brother Jamie carried the stage name Spike, played bass and occasionally sang. The brothers Chris (vocals) and Josh Scott (electric guitar) were added as further members. In addition to new songs, the album also contained newly recorded versions of the songs Kick Ass and Homeless . The band was able to go on a short tour of Japan and was also played on MTV before breaking up in 1992. In their career, the band has also played as an opening act for bands like Gwar , The Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth . Vern Toulon starred in the documentary Streets without Cars before he passed away on May 31, 2001 at the age of 46. JP Toulon died on November 11, 2010 before Jamie Toulon passed away on June 12, 2011.

style

Due to the low average age of the band members, Steve Huey from Allmusic wrote that Old Skull is a hardcore punk answer to the group The Shaggs or Jordy . Almost if not all of the songs were written by Vern Toulon. Get outta School deal with topics like AIDS or speak out against Ronald Reagan in songs like Homeless or just offer brat ranting tirades. At the CIA Drug Fest , the band addressed the murder of a pizza delivery man and sang an adult version of Mary Had a Little Lamb .
