Ole Heiland (born March 20, 1997 in Darmstadt ) is a German classical and jazz musician ( tuba , also piano , accordion , organ , composition ).

Live and act

Heiland learned the tenor horn from the age of six ; from the age of ten he also received piano lessons. Then came tuba lessons at the Darmstadt Academy of Music. In the jazz combo of the Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium he was instructed by Jürgen Wuchner and Uli Partheil . Together with his brother Jan Otto Heiland, he has played in the quintet The Basstubation since 2012 , which released its debut At the Playground in 2013 , followed by the album Transition in 2016 . He was a member of the State Youth Symphony Orchestra of Hesse and the Federal Youth Orchestra ; in autumn 2015 he began studying music with David Cribb at the Leipzig University of Music . He has been a member of the Mendelsohn Orchestra Academy since February 2018.

Heiland's solo debut as a classical musician was at the world premiere of Bartholomew Berzonsky's “The Jovial Giant” for tuba and orchestra in 2014 with the Darmstadt State Orchestra under the direction of Anna Skryleva ; The following year he performed Jürgen Wuchner's jazz suite for tuba, chamber orchestra and percussion with the chamber orchestra of the TU Darmstadt under the direction of Arndt Heyer . He has been a member of the hr jazz ensemble since 2017 , with whom he also appeared at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival in the same year . He forms the Metropol Sextet with German Marstatt , Thomas Bachmann, Manuel Seng, Ralf Cetto and Thomas Cremer ; he is also a member of Wuchner's United Colors of Bessungen . He has played concerts in Tunisia, France, Italy and the Baltic States.

Prizes and awards

At the Jugend musiziert competition he was awarded the First Federal Prize as a tuba player in 2012 and 2013. The BassTubation , which received the scholarship for the Darmstadt Music Prize in 2013, came second in the competition for the Young Munich Jazz Prize 2017 , as did the Burghausen European Young Jazz Prize .
