Oleg Yevgenyevich Menshikov
Oleg Evgenyevich Menshikov ( Russian Олег Евгеньевич Меньшиков , scientific transliteration Oleg Evgen'evič Men'šikov ; born November 8, 1960 in Serpuchow near Moscow ) is a Russian actor.
Life
From 1977 to 1981 Menshikov attended the MS Shchepkin Theater School in Moscow. He then worked for a year at the Maly Theater , Moscow's oldest theater, before joining the Central Theater of the Soviet Army (Центральный театр советской армии) as part of his three-year military service. After finishing his military service, Menshikov was a member of the Yermolowa Theater from 1985 to 1989 . After that he was no longer a permanent member of a theater ensemble, but still plays theater in Russia and abroad: In 1992, he won the Laurence Olivier Award for his role in When She Danced alongside Vanessa Redgrave in the (former) Globe Theater in London. Menshikov has been the director of the Yermolova Theater since April 2012.
Menshikov became known as a film actor to a larger audience. In the Soviet Union, he gained fame early on with the 1982 film The Pokrovsky Gate . He received international recognition in particular for his leading role in The Sun That Deceives Us , which received the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1994. In 2003, Menshikov was appointed People's Artist of the Russian Federation (Народный артист Российской Федерации).
