Oleg Soulimenko (born 1960 in Kharkiv ) is a Russian dancer and choreographer . He lives and works mainly in Vienna .

Life's work

In 1985 he completed his studies in civil engineering at the Moscow State Technical University "NE Baumann" and decided to become a dancer. In the following years he studied dance, performing arts and improvisation, for example with Oleg Kiselev from the Theater der Improvisation and with Genadi Abramov at the Anatoli Vasiliev School for Dramatic Arts . He also took courses in Butoh with Min Tanaka in Japan, as well as in relaxation technique, contact improvisation and body mind centering with Kirsti Simson , Vera Mantero , Ka Rastler , Anzu Furukawa and others.

In 1990 he founded the international Saira Blanche Theater Laboratory in Moscow and developed sophisticated, expressive combinations of performance and improvisation . From 1996 to 2000 there was a collaboration between the Saira Blanche Theater and the Viennese group Lux Flux . The two groups experimented together on the subjects of theater without theater and presence without direction , they showed their joint work in 1998 at the Malta Festival in Poznań and at ImPulsTanz in Vienna, in 1999 at the Wiener Festwochen and finally also at Tanz 2000 , also in Vienna. As a result, two projects arose with Meg Stuart & Damaged Goods : Highway 101 in Antwerp and Crashlanding in Moscow. The works of his Saira Blanche Theaters have also received invitations to Eastern and Western Europe and the United States - around 1999 to the 8th Annual Improvisation Festival in New York; 2000 on dance trends in Greifswald and dance in Berlin ; 2001 to I'll never let you go in Stockholm, 2001.

In 2002 he cooperated with Tanzquartier Wien and created the production East meets West , an artistic dialogue between Russian and Austrian artists. In the same year he was also the curator of the festival 'Zwei tage' in cooperation with Arge TTP, im_flieger and WUK -Theater.

In 2012 the Wiener Festwochen presented its impressive production Made in Austria in the Donauturm : “People with different cultural backgrounds told why they made Austria their adopted home and why they are happy.” This production, developed together with Rosemarie Poiarkov , was also developed in 2013 at Brut Wien shown and broadcast in 2015 in the radio play studio of Ö1 . In 2015, again at Brut Wien, he showed the results of a research trip on shamanism in the Russian republic of Buryatia : Meet the Shaman . This production was also invited by the ImPulsTanz -Festival.

Soulimenko has always sought and is always looking for artistic collaboration with well-known personalities, including Lidia Kavina , Steve Paxton , Lisa Nelson , Markus Schinwald , Jennifer Lacey . His work has been shown at a number of important festivals, including Performa 07 in New York, Tangente in Montreal, Cankarev Cathedral in Ljubljana or Steirischer Herbst in Graz, furthermore in the Dostojewski Theater in St. Petersburg, in the Jerusalem Gerard Brecher Center and in the Kunstverein Hannover , in the Museum Angewandte Kunst Wien, in the Lentos Art Museum Linz and in the Kunsthalle Wien . He also experiments with the composition of electro-acoustic music , as well as with experimental videos . These works have also been shown at a number of festivals, at the Recontres Internationales Paris / Berlin, at the Signali Luminosi Festival in Pesaro, at the National Center for Contemporary Art in Moscow, at the PULSAR Festival in Caracas and at the VARIA Festival in New York.

Since 2005 he has been teaching at the Dance Department of the Anton Bruckner University in Linz .
